Verbenaceae. Lilac flowers and violet fruit in Autumn. The young foliage is bronze-purple, and makes good material for vases, as do bare branches laden with berries. Plants tolerate a little lime in the soil, but conditions which are too alkaline will cause leaf yellowing.
Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. For a tidy, neat appearance, shear annually to shape. Pruning time: spring.
