FAQ

An Introduction to our Business : We define an ‘unusual plant’ simply as one that is not commonly offered by Garden Centres in Ireland. Many of these are older, classic varieties (often propagated here at the nursery) which have been forgotten in the frenzy to come up with something ‘new’. Obviously, we are limited by what is currently available, but we are happy to search for plants not in our catalogue.

We also stock one of the most extensive ranges of Rhododendrons and Azaleas in Ireland, and will be expanding this further in the future.

A few comments about our plant classifications. We always try to give both the botanical family and the country of origin, because we feel that these are important in selecting plants to grow in any particular situation. We have used the ‘star’ hardiness rating scale:

*       Half hardy – plant can withstand temperatures to 0° C.
* *    Frost hardy – plant can withstand temperatures to -5° C.
* * *  Fully hardy – plant can withstand temperatures to -15°C.

Our seeds are in all cases free from chemical treatment and in most cases certified organically grown. They are carefully chosen varieties offering disease resistance, strength, uniformity, and above all, great taste.

Our plants are normally shipped via Fastway couriers, a reliable and efficient method of getting them to you within a day or two. Our seeds are generally sent by An Post.

We would very much like to hear from you, particularly if you have any suggestions as to how we might improve our service.
